How Single Screw Compression Works

The single screw compressor operates on a unique rotary compression principle. Unlike traditional twin-screw designs, the single screw compressor uses one main screw (rotor) meshing with two symmetrically arranged gate rotors (star wheels). This configuration creates a series of compression chambers that progressively reduce in volume, compressing the gas from suction to discharge pressure.

The main screw is driven by the motor, while the gate rotors are driven by the main screw through meshing engagement. This design eliminates the need for timing gears, reducing mechanical complexity and maintenance requirements. The axial and radial forces on the main screw are inherently balanced, enabling smooth, vibration-free operation at high pressures.

Intake (Suction)
Gas enters through the intake port as the main screw rotates, filling the groove between screw threads and gate rotor teeth.

Compression
As rotation continues, the groove volume decreases progressively, compressing the trapped gas while maintaining minimal leakage.

Discharge
When the groove reaches the discharge port, the compressed gas is expelled at the target pressure, completing the cycle.
